Genre Analysis

The bride of Frankenstein is labeled under the horror genre , but also through out it can also be labeled as a sci-fie genre. the director was james whale, it was made in 1935.The film immediately follows the events of the first film and is rooted in the original novel. A subplot from the latter half of the book involves the Monster promising to leave Frankenstein, and the human race, alone if Frankenstein will create a mate for him. Frankenstein creates the female monster, but never brings it to life, deciding instead to destroy it.

Bride of Frankenstein was released to great critical and popular success. In the decades since its release, the film's reputation has grown and it is hailed as director James Whale's masterpiece. Some modern film scholars, noting the homosexuality of James Whale and others in the production, have found a gay sensibility in the film.

James whale produced the bride of Frankenstein, who worked for universal. The circumstance in which back then they decided to give each films for universal was given the task of producing horror movies for a number of years, hence the making of "the bride of Frankenstein".

The bride of Frankenstein from a modern day point of view was better than the remake in 1994. in my view in the first one Frankenstein was wanted to have friends and a wife but in the second on he wanted to cause he master pain and kill him in comparison to the first film. in some ways the modern film was better cause there was more money spent on it, they had a better knowledge of making films which enabled them to have better camera shots and better understanding of the horror genre; as many horror films had been made which they could compare their film to.

The fall of the house of ushers ( roger Corman-1960)

This film fits into the horror genre because it generates responses of fear, horror and terror from viewers. we can tell straight away that it is a horror film as it is dark, cold barren looking landscape, at the start when Philip Winthrop is on his horse, the camera moves slightly which make the audience think some one is watching him. They effectively use mist across the land scape to create a intense atmosphere which show the audiece that there is great tension. The director uses simple details to portray the horror genre and set the sense well by using iconology, like bibles, long shadows, cross, myths, and other Gothic surroundings throughout the film.

This film was made by AIP (American International Pictures). The Director and Actor Steve Berkoff wrote the play based on the story. Roger Corman in the early time of the 1960's was a low budget film producer American International Pictures gave him enough money so that he was able to make a film based on Edgar Allan Poe's "Fall of the House of Usher, when the film was made it was to be in full colour and would feature some unheard of features at such a low budget.

throughout the film i feel Vincent Price was the most effective piece of atmosphere throughout the film. He has a extreme talent to portray the horror factor, he uses he voice to portray this he mainly talks with a whisper which isn't extremely scary but still manages to be dominate the film. I feel the audience would have enjoyed the film in all aspects as it was edited in great detail to perfection.

Style and visual language.

The film is based on a man called to jack, who takes his family away for a couple of months in a hotel. Throughout the time they stay jack develops a condition which is known as cabin fever. Throughout the film jack madness makes the film into the hotel owner telling jack about the hotels history of incidents. when this started happening this is where the insanity was at its peak, as jack got frustrated with his wife when he is trying to work. His wife finally looks at his work and every single word on every page war written "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy". The most intense bit of the film is when the caretaker tell jack the dreadful things he did to his family, which makes jack want to do this to his own family as he is ill. The resolution is when jack dies and his wife and child can escape in snow mobile.

Content

The ellipsis is very clear as every important part is included and not important parts are put aside which speeds up the film. The film shows a lot of point of view shots throughout, this is a good thing as it encourages the audience to concentrate and watch what is happening. There are lots are long shots as well as POV shots; i think the long shots are used in the film to show the audience how spacious and vast the hotel is. In the film the camera is continuously moving which gives you the feeling that you are present in the film. The camera work also brings your attention to the Narrative. Within the narrative there are turns an twist for example the bear giving a b***j**.
